Question 42
How is the Word of God to be read and heard?
2 Timothy 3:16–17
All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.
Prayer
Almighty and everlasting God, we pray in the name of your dear Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. Give us faithful preachers who speak your Word with truth. Teach us to love your Word, prize it, and practice it in our lives. And may your name be hallowed, your kingdom come, and your will be done. Amen.
Derived and adapted from Martin Luther’s prayer in Luther’s Prayers, edited by Herbert F. Brokering, from the translation by Charles E. Kistler (Minneapolis: Augsburg Books, 1967), 97–98.
